We are pleased to invite you to a DanceAbility workshop!
We love to share this work with the Cottage Grove community, and are hoping to sweeten your summer with a workshop on August 17th. Funding from the Cottage Grove Community Foundation has made it possible for this workshop to be offered By Donation, and all proceeds will go toward keeping year-round DanceAbility classes going in Cottage Grove at Opal.
The August workshop facilitator will be Cottage Grove born and raised DanceAbility teacher Madeleine Sisson. In class, we will explore our own unique movement in a shared and creative environment. Take part in the joy and benefits of dance!
DanceAbility classes consist of dance and movement exercises and explorations that build camaraderie, physical awareness, and expressive capabilities. The DanceAbility method is a contemporary dance practice taught in a way that ensures no one is isolated, regardless of experience, abilities or disabilities.
Here are some comments from participants:
–"My teen with disabilities was hesitant- she loves to dance, but was self-conscious about her CP [cerebral palsy]. This class empowered her sense of self, and she added a dance class at high school this term!"
–"This was a very inclusive, respectful and open-minded class that encouraged me to understand the challenges that come with disabilities, and created a safe space for artistic expression."
