Storybook Theatre of Cottage Grove kicks off August 7 its exciting week long summer intensive specially designed for young thespians ages 14 to 20 who are passionate about performing and want to be challenged artistically to achieve a high performance skill level.
In its fourth year, the Musical Theater Intensive is a six-day, full-day advanced theater program, with daily back-to-back courses in dance, acting, vocal technique, improv, auditioning, directing, choreography, Shakespeare, film and more. Before classes begin, each student is interviewed to tailor the sequence of instruction and program to individual goals. Courses are taught by alumni of Cornish College of the Arts (Seattle).
On the fifth day, students perform a private showcase to guest theater professionals who provide each student a professional one-on-one critique and feedback session. On the final day, students have two public performances.
“With a personalized experience like this, students can accelerate their training and skills far beyond what they would in any regular school-year program,” said Judy Smith, Storybook Theatre owner and director.
Storybook Theatre started in 2010 as a drama class offered through the ACE Charter School. It quickly branched off to become its own program, and is currently an independent sole proprietorship and resident company that rents space from the Opal Center for Arts and Education, based in the historic Lawson Building in downtown Cottage Grove.
