Hello all, Leah here…
When I came on as the Executive Director in 2014, there were only about 3 theater productions and only a few other events planned for the entire year. I put a big calendar on the wall and showed the Board all of the empty spaces while saying “We need to change this!” So we buckled down and got to planning!
There have been a lot of changes since then… with the help of the Oregon Country Fair, Oregon Community Foundation, and some wonderful volunteers from Peace Health, we painted our frontage, installed new comfy chairs, and new lights and sound systems. We are pushing for a fantastic small venue experience for the whole community.
I know you probably haven’t been counting, but including Storybook Theatre’s upcoming production of Little Women in December, we will have had 8 awesome theater productions here at the Opal Center this year. There have been a lot of great actors on our stage, and we can’t wait to see more soon!
For the first time since the incarnation of Centro del Sol, the Opal Center for Arts and Education has a full season calendar ready for you. We will have 8 theater productions, a new cultural music series, a new music competition for high school students.. and a wide variety of special events including of course our famous Trashion Show which will be in April.
To celebrate the New Year and the new season, we are going to have a Masquerade Ball on January 28th to dance, drink, and to raise funds for the Opal Center’s awesome programming.
So get those planners out, save the dates, dust off your dancing shoes, and stay tuned for tickets!
See you (often!) in 2017!
Executive Director, Opal Center for Arts and Education
