Opal – The Journey of an Understanding Heart: an original play by Gypsy Prince and Kirk Boyd
A joint production involving the Opal Center for Arts and Education and The Academy of Arts and Academics opens Thursday, April 11 at 7:00 at the Opal Center in Cottage Grove.
Opal – The Journey of an Understanding Heart tells the story of the former Cottage Grove Resident from the point of view of high school students who are asked to study her life and they don’t understand why they have to study a woman who lived so long ago.
“I’ve been intrigued by Opal Whiteley for several years,” says Boyd. “And here was the opportunity to do a co-production with A3 and Opal Center. The nexus was too perfect! We had to do this! We tried to tell Opal’s story by focusing on her relationship with nature which was a major part of her diary and it was the diary published by The Atlantic that became the best-selling book of that year.”
The play, which runs about one hour with no intermission uses acting, music, dance and a few surprises along the way.
Performances are Thursday and Friday, April 11 and 12 at 7:00pm and Saturday, April 13 at 2:00pm.
Tickets can be purchased online or at The Crafty Mercantile, 517 East Main Street, Cottage Grove
